Frequently Asked Questions

Does Document Organizer store my actual documents?

No. It only stores information about where your physical documents are kept — the room, cabinet, shelf, drawer, or folder. It's built specifically not to be a scan-and-upload tool.

Where is my data actually stored?

Entirely in your browser's local storage on your own device (IndexedDB). There's no server, no account, and no cloud sync — nothing you enter ever leaves your device unless you export a backup file yourself.

Do I need to create an account?

No account, no login, no email address required. You can start using the organizer immediately.

What happens if I clear my browser data?

Since everything is stored locally, clearing your browser's site data will remove your organizer entries. We'd recommend exporting a backup periodically from Settings if you rely on the app regularly.

Can I use this on more than one device?

Each device keeps its own separate local data. To move your organizer to another device, export a JSON backup from Settings and import it on the other device.

Is this the same as Google Drive or Dropbox?

No — those services store copies of your files in the cloud. Document Organizer stores none of your files at all; it only remembers where the physical originals are kept.
